CASS has created this Spanish Course for Medical students and Professionals nurses and medical teams to answer the growing demand for relevant knowledge of Spanish amongst doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers. It is oriented towards improving students basic vocabulary related to healthcare, so that she/he can communicate respectfully and effectively with Spanish speaking patients and their families.

Program Cost: $1150 (USD)

Price includes:

Application and material fee.

20 hrs of Spanish lessons, 4 hrs a day, From Monday To Friday, during 4 weeks

The student will receive a Spanish grammar textbook, vocabulary textbook, and a workbook.

Accommodation with a Honduran family, private room, private bathroom, 3 meals per day, 7 days a week.

Placement in the public Hospital or the Public clinic in La Ceiba.

About the Course:

The course is for 4 weeks, Monday through Friday, a total of 80 hours of class time to be given. (Lessons of 50 minutes each)

Distribution of the class weeks:

First week: 20 hours a week of general Spanish plus vocabulary of Spanish medicine.
Second, third and fourth week: 20 hours of Spanish with vocabulary related to health. The course instruction will be given in Spanish with reference material that contains English translations.
The second, third and fourth week: The students will practice working in the Public Hospital in La Ceiba where only Spanish will be spoken. Also in the Public clinic in the Cacao community. This practice will be in the afternoons.

Course Requirements.

  • The students may have some knowledge of Spanish or be beginners. If a student is having trouble understanding the lessons, they can solicit extra hours of individual lessons (not included in the price) for reinforcement and help in reaching the level that she/he needs for the practice work in the local Hospital.

  • The lessons will be both theoretical and practical, making special emphasis on communication and understand the words that people use that she/he can’t find in the texts.

  • For the afternoon practice work in the Hospital, we require that she/he bring her/his curriculum, or a letter from the teacher or from the college or medical school with information on the years you are attending. It is very important and required from the Director of the Hospital here in La Ceiba.

  • The Director or the Doctor charged of the area in the Hospital that she/he will work can signed any document that student brings in order to guarantied that she/he have attended this program.

Course Content:

Conversation, Reading, Grammar, Composition and conversation in Spanish:
Verb conjugation, use of grammar concepts, word and sentence structures, correction of pronunciation, spelling.

Reading and Composition in Spanish frequently used general vocabulary, forming words, different subject as medical alternative or natural.
Conversation: in real life situations, Spanish cultural life, current events.

The teacher will be assigned exercises and practice of communication specific to healthcare also every day the teacher will assigned home work.
