To my friends at the CASS:
I would just like to take the opportunity to thank all of those, including the directors Rafael Linares and Belinda Linton, as well as my instructor, for not only offering me exactly the Spanish experience I was looking for, but also for making my transition into Honduras as simple and easy as possible. As a professional student about to embark on my dissertation research into a place foreign from my previous experiences, I had many logistical concerns, including my poor knowledge of the Spanish language. Rafael and others have assisted me more than I could have expected. I am very pleased to have worked with such a professional group of people, and I look forward to every opportunity I may have to return. To say that I strongly recommend the CASS to others is an understatement. It has been my pleasure to work with you all.

La Ceiba, 06-06-2001
De Spaanse School in La Ceiba is een kleine school net aan de rand van het centrum in La Ceiba. De school helpt de studenten een basis in het Spaans op te bouwen, verder maken ze je wegwijs in de stad en dat is erg nuttig, zeker als je alleen reist. Ze halen je op van het vliegtuig als je je van tevoren aangemeld hebt (had ik niet, dan moet je zoeken).
De eertse dag wordt je Spaans geevalueerd en krijg je een rondleiding door de stad. Je ziet de basis dingen zoals een bank waar je geld kunt wisselen, een internet café waar studenten korting krijgen en nog een paar dingen. Verder geven ze wat tips om buikloop en beroving te voorkomen, handig als je voor het eerst in de Tropen bent.
De lessen zijn leuk maar erg intensief. Alles is in het Spaans en de meeste docenten kunnen ook niet anders. Ik heb dat zelf geen belemmering gevonden hoewel het soms wel met handen en voeten gaat. Neem een pocket-woordenboek mee, dat helpt. Je hebt vier uur les, van 7:30 tot 12:15. Dan moet je ’s middags of ’s avonds nog huiswerk maken (een uurtje).
De school regelt daarnaast trips naar het strand of natuurgebieden. Ook hebben ze op Utila, het duikeiland voor de kust, een soort dependance waar je heen kunt.
De school heeft enthousiaste en erg vriendelijke medewerkers die je met meer dan alleen Spaans op weg kunnen helpen in Honduras,

PS: de vlucht van Tegus naar La Ceiba kost ongeveer 40$, het alternatief, de bus 8$. Je moet zelf maar zien waar je nog zin in hebt als je landt. Je kunt trouwens minstens zo makkelijk naar San Pedro Sula vliegen (ipv naar Tegucigalpa).
